It all started in late 1998. It was
during the end of November that I heard about Sega's
new console and that got me interested. I read many
interesting things about it and decided it would
be nice to actually create a website dedicated to
this new console. At the time things were all fresh
and the only thing that existed was some ideas.
Nevertheless I decided to start planning and push
this idea forward. I wanted to create a site that
would be dedicated just to this one console, something
that was hard to come by at the time.
As the American Launch date approached things
started to heat up. In May 1999 Sega.com opened
up their new message board system to the public
just before the big launch date. These Shoptok
powered boards allowed the gamers to create their
very own Boards. It was there that ~DcD~ first
debuted. With the board up and running and its
great popularity I began development. Work went
well and with that success the site first opened
just in time for the Launch date of 9/9/99. At
the time the full name was ~Dreamcast Domain~
and the address was www.dreamcast-domain.net.
Things continued well throughout 99 and 2000.
However in the early parts of 2001 things began
to crumble for the Dreamcast. The sad news soon
came that Sega will halt the production of the
Dreamcast due to their financial difficulties.
As Sega went into a 3rd party game development
mode we too had to shift gears and aim in a different
direction. We then decided to change our direction
from a Dreamcast only site into a Sega one. It
was the best way to continue what we did and what
people enjoyed. We decided to change our name
as well to reflect the change but we also wanted
to keep it somewhat similar in remembrance of
how it all started. It was then decided to shorten
~Dreamcast
Domain~ down to ~DcD~. The site continued for
the next few months. As November drew near we
began re-designing. ~Dreamcast Domain~ re-opened
again on November 11 2001 (11/11/01) as ~DcD~
and now could be found under www.dreamflint.com.
~DcD~ has been running ever since.
As time passed and the game world continued to
evolve we began to get a clear understanding that
more changes were in order for DcD. With the availability
of new trends and web technologies we began to
develop new ways for our users to enjoy DcD. After
long hours of planning and discussing we also
reached an agreement and decided that DcD needed
a new branding and a new focus. It was then decided
to secure a more unique domain name to better
reflect what DcD is about. In early 2007 DcD once
again changed locations and now could be found
under another alias www.thedcd.com.
We constantly change things for the better based
on user feedback and hope to continue to serve
the gaming public for as long as there is interest.
I would like to take this time to thank all our
staff we had through these years who spent a lot
of their time and effort to help shape ~DcD~ to become what it is today. I would
also like to thank you the fans because all this
would not be possible without you and your constant support. ~DcD~ has gone
through many changes throughout these years but
they were all for the better. As we continue,
our aim is still the same; to provide great content
with easy access and navigation. We have many
new things planed for the future so stick around
and enjoy the ride.
